The bastard son of apparatchik Andrian Lazarey, Sark learned from a very early age through cold treatment and occasional abuse that he was unwanted and probably not likely to amount to much of anything. Despite his father's lack of interest him and eventual abandonment at boarding school in England at the age of five, he excelled quickly on sheer blind ambition, determined not to prove his father's assumptions correct. This led to them being far ahead of a class by the age of thirteen and left his teachers in a lurch as to what to do with a prodigy on their hands whose inherently cold nature and determination left them all deeply unsettled. He was eventually picked up by a woman claiming to be from a special school for the gifted, who turned out to be famed criminal mastermind Irina Derevko, who slowly broke him down bit by bit and twisted him into a weapon. Despite the torture and the anguish he had to endure as part of his conditioning, he considered Irina's training the best thing that could have ever happened to him. Under her tutelage, he found all the respect and recognition he believed he'd earned. By the age of sixteen, he was a full-fledged operative who quickly excelled to become one of Irina's top lieutenants thanks to the same measure of blind ambition that had gotten him through a rather rough childhood, putting him in an extremely high position of power at a very young age.

He has been described as being cold, cocky, ambitious, immoral, smarmy, arrogant, vicious, vindictive, manipulative, petty, and a coward, and all of these things are true to varying degrees. Above all things, he has a fierce determination and drive, coupled with a complete lack of remorse, that allows him to be an ideal operative, which is what he prides himself on the most. He can't stand to be thought of as weak and refuses to allow himself to be rendered or considered useless in anyone's eyes. At his best, he's a assassin, a businessman, and someone with a large enough skillset to make himself worth anyone's while and at his worst, he's a dog who would bite the hand of his master if he was caught just for the sake of surviving and getting a better deal. At heart, he's a survivor, simply because he's had to be all of his life, considering how often he's been kicked around and is of the opinion that there is absolutely nothing more important than survival.

Despite being overly mature and wise for his years, Sark is emotionally repressed to the point of almost being stunted. He's been trained to keep his emotions repressed and hidden out of the way and while they do exist, he's almost forgotten how to actually handle them when they're brought out, meaning that when he gets extremely scared, it tends to show, and when he's deeply upset by something, you'll probably know it. Granted, it takes a lot to make any of his emotions that obvious and generally he keeps everything tightly under wraps no matter what the circumstance. Very few people have been allowed to see past his barriers on his own terms and there are little to no people he actually feels he trusts enough to willingly show that much of a weakness in front of. He's capable of love and compassion, but only to those he feels have earned it from him and very few have actually claimed that right.
